Its fairly typical that people in tech forums justify/rationale their choices.

TH, just did a story showing the gtx 480 picked up 10%+ performance in the 9 months since launch with driver updates.

Overclocked 470's are fairly powerful.

470's will not net you good power usage, but they are great cards. They have a lot of OC room, assuming you have enough power (and cooling) to feed 1 (or more). When the 580 and 570 were released, they were the best bargain around at <$200 each, IMHO.

470's weren't black sheep at all. If your going to assign that title to any of the Fermi cards it was the 480. There was nothing wrong with the 470. It was a good performer and a decent overclocker. And While it was hotter and louder and drew more power than the competition it was no where near the pig that the 480 was. That said he could have gotten a couple of 5870's for less than what he paid which would have given him similar if not better performance.

GTX 470 SLI is definitely a quick setup, but no match for GTX 580 SLI or 6950 CF. Generally more comparable to 6870 CF and 5870 CF.

The GTX470 sucks balls; when subjected to large range of titles it’s often slower than a GTX285 overall and it sounds like a hairdryer in comparison.
