How would you have handled your self in this situation (for car guys)

There would be so many swear words. So many swear words. And probably some vandalism against the Cherokee to make sure that it wasn't salvageable.

Once I settled down and started thinking realistically again, I'd just take the insurance money and find another hobby. But if someone's that dedicated, that accident probably broke the bloke's heart. :(

Both points are valid. I would be heart broken and probably down for quite a while. But, when the smoke clears, I can find better ways of spending my money and time.

Yep.

It would piss me off, but she did return back (though if I'd have seen her I'd of jumped her and called the cops on her running ass, panic or not!), and no harm was done except that to a very nice drag car.

Probably why i would never spend thousands of dollars and years of my time into a car. The original poster asked what i would do if i was in his position, and that's what i would do. I would be pissed that she was so reckless, but in the end, it would just be a car.

It's just a material posession, but picture somebody taking a bulldozer to your house by mistake. Except make this house something you built yourself and had added to and done awesome yardwork over the years, etc. and now it's toasted. It's going to upset anyone!

I didn't say i wouldn't be upset. But it was an accident. If somebody bulldozed my house by accident, yeah i'll be pissed... but it was an accident, and it's only a car. Replace the car with say a daughter, then i'll be upset and crying. Then maybe i would lose hope, and maybe it would be enough for me to put a webpage up and dedicate it to it. But for a car?

You're right, Skoorb; it would upset anyone. Let's hope the owner realizes that it's just a "thing" and not the life of a loved one or something --something that is far more valuable-- and goes on with his life.

Drag car was streetable (though obviously barely) and the trailer was toasted too. There's a lot more put into a racer than there is put into a street car too.

You're right about the "accident" part, but look at the facts. The police estimate of the girl's speed was 60 mph in a residential area. There's more to this than simple mistakes, there was some extremely poor judgement by the girl.

It's only a car to some people... but it's a life to some.

I'd be pissed as hell if that were my car... :|

Been there, done that. A lady drove her car through my cousin's front window last year. Said the voices in her head told her to do it :p. That does suck about the car though. I myself would probably never sink my time and money into a vehicle like that, but I'm sure everyone here has their own "pride and joy" be it a vehicle, house, or anything else, that they would get equally upset over if something happened.
