how would you handle rent in this situation?

you and your friend are living in a 2-bedroom apartment together. rent and all utilities are split 50/50, and you each buy your own grocieries.

then the friend's girlfriend moves in. you're ok with that, but how should rent and utilities be divided now that there's a third person living in the apartment?

everything split 1/3, or should the roommate/gf pay less since they're sharing a room?

You move the fvck out. Why? Cuz you don't wanna deal with there sh!t when they don't get along.

fifty percent of the total at 1/3 and fify percent of the total by square footage of bedrooms.

how many bathrooms?

1 bathroom, bedrooms are equal-sized if you don't count closets (my bedroom has 2 walk-in closets)

(note -- this isn't an actual situation, but I overheard his gf talking about needing to move out of her parents house and it just got me thinking 🙂)

Typically in this scenario, the girlfriend would get split 50/50. Since that may not be appropriate in your particular case, however, the correct answer is that you may film the roommate and girlfriend having intimate relations - and then sell said videos online. All proceeds from the videos will go towards commuinal costs, but shall apply in addition to the 50% already contributed by the roommate.

40/30/30 is fair and 1/3 utilities

I wouldn't want to stay with you in an appartment

Where
Y = sq ft your room
Z = sq ft their room
? = weight in lbs of girlfriend
? = breast size of girlfriend
X = number of words per minute girlfriend speaks
ß = additional rent your roomate should pay

ß = Y/Z * ((? + X) /?)

leave it half and half. it wouldnt make sense to make him pay more. at least to me. but then again, money is just money. it isnt going to curve my outlook on situations like this. but then again, thats probably one of my weaknesses.

i would just leave it at half and half and ask him if you can get some too!

Half and half for rent and one third of the utilities would seem ok for me. But sharing everything by forrestroche's formula would be a much better choice 😀
