How would you go about finding financial information for local area salons?

My friend is doing a business plan for a new beauty salon and she has to gather financial information about the local area salons. Basic information is mandatory, but extensive information helps too. How would she go about getting this info?

call them up and ask? depending on the age, she could always pose as a college student doing a business plan for an assignment.

Thanks. How about a local place that keeps financial records? Do cities/counties usually have those?

The IRS would have this info but you'll never get to see it.

That information is generally not public, unless it is a publicly held company (shareholders). Even then, you would not be able to get info for each individual store.

I'm a little confused to why she would need specific financial data for a business plan. Generally, you would use estimates based on population within a range, customer traffic, price ranges and staffing. If this is for a bank loan proposal (SBA or conventional), they generally realize exact amounts are not going to be found.
