Sucks explaining jokes, but he was making a moderate funny. He implied you're ready to get married first shot; "engaged". Not the best joke in the world, but it didn't cost you much ;^)

I'd feel it's kind of rude, but probably see it as a one time thing and give them another chance. If they do that stuff all the time then I'd move to another barber shop.
