How would this computer be?

Jetway 939GT4-SLI (if you think it's crap, read the Anandtech review)
Enermax Liberty 500W PSU (good brand? I want something modular)
Western Digital 250GB 16mb cache HDD
OCZ XTC 2x1GB 3-4-3-8 PC-4000 ram. (this IS DDR)
Windows XP Pro


I already have a great case, and DVD burner. I will be using the 6600GT from my previous system, that is, unless you guys can find something to cut out that won't compromise performance so that I can use that money toward a better graphic card. I plan to madly overclock if possible.

What's your system now?

Are you looking for more gaming performance or performance elsewhere?

If it's gaming, your videocard would be the first thing to upgrade probably unless you have something very slow for the CPU.

Here is my current system...

AMD 3200+ on e-machines cooling which is idling at around 39C
crappy e-machines mobo with no overclocking options whatsoever and doesn't conform to standard MATX or ATX.
old POS Western Digital HDD that is beginning to make the click of death
old 300W Bestec PSU (came with e-machines)
6600GT (i put that in myself)
1GB of ram in 4 sticks that are... you guessed it.... e-machines crap which is failing memtest left and right

the only good parts are the Antec Lanboy case (the e-machines one was falling apart and overheating various parts), the Sound Blaster Augdigy 2 ZS, and the Lite-On DVD burner I bought seperately.

To add on to all that, the computer is randomly freezing, crashing, making weird noises out of whatever speakers or headphones i put in. I would say I need a new one.

If this is for a gaming upgrade you might want to keep the 3200+ and invest in a new videocard rather than keeping the 6600gt and getting a new CPU.

No. but I plan to use it in the near (3-5 months) future. Either i'll get a second 6600GT, or I'll get a 7800GT and then later get another.

I dont know.. I never used it but I heard it does have overclock features. And I forgot to recommend DFI too! lol

DFI is great, however, it didn't do that great on the overall performance tests, it's also expensive, and the position of the northbridge blocks long PCI-e cards. I think I'll just go with the jetway.

You told me that you dont need SLI.. its just a waste so go with ASUS or another jetaway with no SLI.

Looks great but I prefer the OCZ Powerstream and not those modular psu's. I do think it's a waste of money.

i second the modstream is a waste i hate it and they are really hard to work with. just get something wite sleeved cables and you will be good. everything else looks great

You're just a few degrees above most of these.

So yeah, maybe I'm slow but I don't think you have to worry about your CPU dying. If you think it's dead, I'll be glad to take it off your hands.

It's just locks up the computer when it goes under heavy load pretty much. So I'm pretty sure it's dying.

If you know your ram is bad and you have a generic PSU that you put a new videocard in drawing more power from it, those would be two prime suspects too.

Just trying to get you the most bang for your buck again. Yeah, your CPU might be bad but it might also be fine. It might have been a good idea to check it before buying a new one.
