And conclusively? I know that is probably impossible but the theologian thread got me wondering...

how would the world change? probably not much, people will always find something to kill each other over. some people might be sad i guess, as i would be too if i was in their position.

You could just as easily ask, How would the world change if Religion was able to be PROVED CONCLUSIVELY.

I guess first off it wouldn't be called "religion" anymore. It would require a cooler name!

At first there would be major denial. It will be centuries before a significant number of religious families stop denying it.

You will see a temporary increase in immoral behavior. People will think there is no punishment for bad behavior (and thus do it). However there are non-religious reasons to be moral and these will eventually prevail returning us to a state like we live in today.

You will see lots of anger and fighting in the short term - but eventually residing as people get used to the new idea.

You will see faster scientific advances (no one arguing against some things they currently violently oppose).

Yes, but that isnt my question. I also wasnt thinking entirely in aspects of warfare, but also in things like economy and educational aspects.

as to the original question.

even w/o religion, people are still people. stupid people will still be stupid. selfish people will still be selfish. on and on.

nothing much would change in my opinion.

as to the second question, you would think if 1 religion was proved true conclusively that there would be huge changes in the world, but not. people will still be people.

It's interesting how you phrased your question, but if mankind was finally able to prove whether or not there is a higher power, I don't really think much would change. Life would still go on. People would still have problems. I spend a lot of time wondering whether there is something else, but truthfully it doesn't really matter. How would things be different is we knew for a fact that we are the only life in the universe? How would things be different if we knew for sure that the Yeti wasn't real? How would life be different if someone found a dinosaur in Loch Ness? There would be a headline in the paper, you would read it and say isn't that cool, then you would go to work, same as always. You seem to know for sure that there is no higher power in the universe. Since you know this, from your perspective it's true. How is your life different from the next guy who knows that such a thing does exist? You both go to work, meet people, go to the mall, eat dinner at the same time of day, you both drive your car to the store to get groceries. If someone you loved was in danger you would both try to help them. So how would life be different if tommorrow someone proves that there is no god? The same as today I say.

i'm gonna get this out before this turns into something so long i don't want to read it...

not that much will change.

organized religion has been created by man to fit our needs, emotionally, spiritually, whatever. disproving religions do not negate these needs. they just force people to find other ways to fulfill them.

note, the above statement does not make any judgement in the actual truth of religion.

Interesting response lirion. FWIW, im not trying to inject any of my personal biases into the thread. The question itself would seem to imply that...but not neccesarily. :) Im just interesting in seeing some interesting stuff to daydream about.

gopunk, stay a little longer. :)

In what ways would those needs be fulfilled? (obviously, just speculation)?

this is a moot question we will never be able to prove or disprove something that doesnt have any evidence to validate its exsistance.

You cannot contridict a non-exsistant fact.

Try doing a search for Easter or Elledan.

Since the source of religion lies in the true nature of man, it cannot be disproved. The best we can hope for in that direction is not to know ourselves thus rendering religion, truth, etc. moot. At that we have succeeded admirably.
