Invade and claim the entire moon for the U.S. Then start building space ships with laser guns so the bad guys can't get to the moon anymore. 
Bush would decide there must be oil there and declare war on whatever country is colonizing the moon. He would then point to the central Pacific while referencing the location of the moon.
I would be seriously pissed if we allowed another country to get to the moon again and colonize it before us. Unfortunately if we don't do something that's the way things are headed.

hmm... there is a limit to domestic politics or even international politics.
my hope is that these are all very intelligent people working for the benefit of mankind. and that currently as long as there are no weapons that can be deployed on the moon, and no way of transporting whatever we find back to earth economically, the moon will remain untouched.
China is just doing all this to show that it has come of age. It is just as inept as USA in bringing anything up there or back.

you do guys realize, even to make a small livable base (say for 50 people) it would be EXTREMELY expensive. 1st you need oxygen, 2nd need radiation shielding or every1 would get cancer in less than 1 year, 3rd you would need food and supplies..

You can always break away from the UN. In fact, once you get to the Moon, you can say you're not an Earthling anymore.
The same reason that we spent billions of dollars to build nuclear weapons that we'd never use. We needed to beat the Russians. Our goal was to just get there first, no tto claim it. Since the Russians were the first ones in space, do they get to claim those altitudes as their own? Fvck no
Kind of how we already waste too much money on the military? Our military budget is at least 3x more than all other countries combined, and our population is only the 4th largest (we haven't even reached half a billion). PLEASE tell me why we can't scrap one 50 million dollar cruise missile and put that money in the meager NASA budget.

Terraforming the moon wouldn't be that hard, it would just be too costly to be worth doing. For energy, build solar panels on the parts of the moon that are always bathed in sunlight. Vegetation can provide ample oxygen and food if tended to. Fresh water is the second biggest problem, the biggest problem is being able to construct the facilities.
OMG...have any of you seen the movie Time Machine? If not...please dont be like the government in that movie and BLOW IT UP to make condos on it..

Dude...i thought that was a weird movie.....but when they blew up the moon, i was like WTF WERE THEY THINKING!?! Theres crap that depends on the lunar magnetic field like the ocean....dont fvck with that...lol
