How would setup my IDE devices on this setup w/ a Promise Ultra100?

I have 2 ATA100 maxtor Hard drives and a DVD-ROM... so how should I set this all up? This is what I'm thinking:

promise IDE channel 1 master: Maxtor 1
promise IDE channel 2 master: Maxtor 2
primary master: DVD-ROM

Is this good? Would I get better performance off the promise card or my motherboard's IDE channels which are also ATA100 (Asus CUSL2)? So if it's the motherboard than I guess I should do this?:
Primary master: Maxtor 1
2ndary master: Maxtor 2
Promise channel 1 master: DVD-ROM

Which setup would be best? This would be for an Ultra card... W/ my hard drives (2 * 40.9GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus), Raid would be ideal, but I'm not so excited over the thought of raid so I'm going to play it safe. I also here w/ the new Promise drivers, hard drive performances increase up to 40%. I believe they mentioned an increase in performance also for the devices on the motherboard's IDE controller, but does this change anything? Will the Promise controller perform better?

Yes even with a ATA66 drive I got a 30% boost by putting it on my onboard Promise ATA100. And thoose maxtors are ATA100 so it should be even a tad more. So put the HDs on the ATA100

Ya A7V has onboard Promise ATA100. I meant to toss the HDs on the Promise, its faster.

i wouldn't go RAID unless you have a backup going. i do, i also have RAID 0 ;-)

anyway, HDDs on the promise, and DVD on the mobo.
