How would I go about making my own live Cd / install disc

I've always thought it would be neat to setup linux the way I want it, install certain apps etc... then take a "snapshot" and be able to make it into a live CD or even an installer. I could gather a bunch of useful tools and make a rescue CD, for example. Maybe even custom code a GUI to go with it. (never did GUI coding in Linux before, but I want to learn eventually) How hard would this be to do?

Start with one of the liveCD distros, see what they say in their readme about how to modify/update their CD and go from there. I use Knoppix on a USB key as my rescue disk.

I think fedora and ubuntu have "remixers" or something now for doing just that.

Cool so from the sounds of it it sounds fairly doable. I'll read up on what each distro has to offer.

Debian has live-helper and live-magic for this too.
