How would I go about finding...

a used TV in my area? I've tried the local newspaper and google didn't seem to help much. Is there anything else I can do?
(I'm looking for a 25 inch tv with s video if it matters)

I'm in northern california (about an hour north of the golden gate bridge) and I've found those tv's for as low as $150 brand new. So I'd say something around $100 or so is ideal.

fleebay would probably suck for shipping costs.... making it not worth it (unless it was close enought to pick up)

I'd recommend: 1. Garage Sales
2. pawn shops
3. Estate sales/auctions (tv's often go quite cheap there because 3/4 of the crowd is antique dealers who aren't interested in a tv)

Buying from somewhere else is pointless because of the shipping. That's what's so frustrating about it.

Garage sales are harder than you think. They're listed in the paper but rarely is their phone number. So to check it out, I have to drive all over town for hours just to see if the tv is the right one. Since I'm looking for something very specific, it's pretty rare that they'd have it.

I don't know if any pawn shops around but I'll ask my roommate.

Ohh, never thought of that. Is there a way I could find local estate sales/auctions??

I'd hate to burst your bubble but you're probably better off buying a new TV... For a $50 savings you could be easily buying someone else's problems.. Tubes have a lifetime of X amount of years... Also, shipping does kill any ebay deal.. Try the local classifieds, new york has LOOT - Cali probably has something just like it.. Don't pay more than $80 for a used tv.. I was at circuit city the other day and they had an open box 25" tv for $90 - great since you get the full warranty...

Oh wow, never thought of an open box deal. I'll check that out. I found some killer deals on ebay a long time ago. Then I looked at the shipping. I haven't been back since

I know it's hard to find one but there HAS to be someone near by who has a tv for sale. It'll be used for the mame so it won't be on that much, thus it'll probably last longer.

True, I should just buy a new one but my roommate and I made up a budget and the tv was listed as only $100. So we'll have to find a way to save $50 somewhere else.
