How would I get into the culinary field?

I plan on applying and attending a culinary academy sooner or later, but many of the better ones (i.e. CIA) require previous experience.. So I go onto the job sites looking for a job as a sous chef, but all THOSE require experience.. One of those catch-22 things I guess. Anyone know how I can get my start on my way to chefdom? If i have to start at the bottom so be it, I just need to get my foot in the door.

Hehe, I got mine in the military, but I suppose you could get a start at Burger King. ;)

That doesn't count. You don't learn to cook at Booger King. I know how to use a microwave, thanks. I actually can cook REALLY well (been cooking since I was 6) but I've had no formal training.

I;m out of the food service industry now, but I used to work at Macaroni Grill. You could work your way up to Sous Chef there if you were willing to work at it. I'm sure there are probably restaurants in your area that have a similar program, you just need to find one that will let you work your way up.

you will need to apply at a community college or a technical college and go under their program first...before going to a better place...

You need to work in the field, get a job at a good restaurant for a couple years, you will probably start by cutting veggies for like 8 months.
