Would for example Mechwarrior 4 run smooth on such a machine with 192MB Ram? Are there any benchmarks outthere?

Thanx for any input.

It would be overkill.
Why don't you put the GF2MX in the system in your sig and put your V3 in the P2-300 system.

I had a K6-2/350 and a V3-2000 and I used it to play Quake3. It wasn't super fast and I played with geometry and stuff low on the scales but it worked. A P2-300 is faster than a K6-2/350 for games.

It's actually not for me, but for a friend of mine.

[Edit] But would Mechwarrior 4 run smooth? If yes, he would buy it, if not, he would wait for Empire Earth, and then buy a new computer.[/Edit]

The lowest processor I have seen benchmarked with the GeForce 2 MX is with a P3-550....It seems as if the MX really only kicks in above 650MHz or so....I think the processor would really be dragging it down at 300.

I suggest your friend wait for just a little longer and upgrade the whole lot.

192mb of ram for a 300mhz processor? That's a big waste of money in itself. You should overclock you processor to 500 or however high it can possibly go, and then maybe the GeForce2MX might help a bit. Otherwise get some cheaper card for your 300mhz system.

Why 192Mb of RAM is waste with 300Mhz processor ? I have 192Mb with my 450Mhz K6-2+ cause I don't need/can't afford faster processor/mobo and need lots of RAM for Java programming and toying with Wine/WMware. BTW I have GeForce2MX, too, cause I couldn't get G400/450 from anywhere...
