You are ignorant as hell if you say spanking a child is not physical abuse....

<< Hey! My parents used to beat the living sh!t out of me! Ok? And looking back on it, I'm glad they did! And I'm looking forward to beating the sh!t out of my kids, aren't you? For no reason whatsoever. *thbbt* "What'd you hit me for?" "Shutup and get out there and mow the lawn for Christs sake!" There's therapy for ya! Mowing the lawn and crying at the same time. "The Leary kids in therapy again. Their lawn looks great, it's unbelieveable!" >>

As much as I don't want to I'm LMAO...

<< Children have to realize that there are consequences for doing bad things. I don't believe in the, if they do something wrong, its your fault b.s. Especially when you tell them not to do, but they still do it anyways, because they want to. >>

I totally agree.

I believe the punishment depends on the child, if they listen to you after getting in trouble for it once, then great, but if the child constantly repeats what he is getting in trouble for, then a different tougher punishment needs to happen. I have a 4 year old and a 8 year old, two different stories completely when it comes to punishment, now when my 8 year old decided to walk home from school, when my wife was waiting to pick her up, and the whole school was looking for her, you better believe she got a spanking when I got home. That is something serious, and deserves a serious punishment, not just "dont do it again, stand in the corner".

I spank my 8 year old 85lb son once and he cries for 5 minutes and doesn't commit the infraction again...

I spank my 5 year old 40lb son three times and he says "that didn't hurt", laughs and takes off running to play...

Go figure.

Bed time in my house is like the old Bill Cosby skit he did in his stand-up days:

Bill's child to Bill: "Silly old man, can't you see, we can't go to bed without a good beating"

BTW, my 5 year old went to a Montessori school, we had to pull him because there discipline was not effective. Sometimes, I wonder if any discipline is effective for that boy. Ironically, he wants to be a Marine when he gets older.

My 4 year old is that way, i think it is a stage, I can get on to him for something, he just looks at me and says, yes or okay, I turn around and he does it again. He can drive me nuts sometimes.

What my kids get in trouble for the most is lying in my house, I give them a choice, you tell me the truth, even if you did something bad, and you wont get a spanking, you lie to you are getting your butt spanked. That is a habit that need to be controlled early on, i want to be able to trust my kids, not question them, so this is what I am the strictest with.

I can not tolerate lying by my kids. I do pretty much the same thing. I explain that the truth is much easier than a lie. They will not get off by telling me the truth but it will be much less severe than to lie and I find out about it later, which I always do.

I can tell when my 8 year old is lying, but I haven't figured out the 5 year old. The 3 year old girl (can't spank the girl, just can't get myself to do it) is just starting to pick up bad habits of the 5 year old, and I still have a couple of years for the 1 year old.

<< i've raised 3 with no spanking & they turned out fine. >>

good job.

my friend has a 3 year old now. they have never spanked him and he gets away with so much and is really a little brat. for some reason he seems to listen to me whenever i'm around though. i've not spanked him, but i warned him that i would do it or that i would take away his toy or something. he responded quite well to the warning. ;) i guess the threat of a spanking is enough sometimes. :D
