How will we abbreviate the year verbally after 2009?

Pointless but nevertheless vital questions like this aside, I hope we smash the bloody Welsh in Cardiff tonight :D

I think you get the point.

We never said 'nine nine' did we?

No, but we do say oh-one oh-two etc etc. So the logic continues with the teens that the easiest way to say it is one-oh, one-two etc etc. Teen-oh, teen-one just does not sound as good as one-oh, one-two.

When we hit the twenties it will then progress to twenty, twenty-one, etc, etc.

I like the sound of 'teen-oh'

I'd say one-oh or twenty-ten, then move on to eleven, twelve, thirteen, etc. Seems most natural to me.

LOL

Personally I like just plain old ten, eleven and so on. I also prefer saying seven, eight and nine. I just don't see the need people have to say the same thing using two words instead of one. But more than likely most people will carry on with the two word descriptions of the years out of habit.

Someone asked when my credit card expired and I said '010'. This was followed by, "I mean, '10'.... I mean, 2010."

Have we even agreed upon a name for this decade?

Exactly, we need to figure this out first before we worry about 3 years from now. What're we doing with this, calling this decade the Aughts? The Os? Someone needs to make a decision.

I'd just call it the 2000s, but after 2009 definitely go for teen-oh.

"In the year of Our Lord two-thousand ten. Bless-ed be his name. Amen."

Short version: leave out the "Bless-ed be his name".... at your peril!

probably the same way it was done after the years 10, 110, 210, 310, 410, 510, 610, 710, 810, 910, 1010, 1110 etc, etc. It's been done many times before. It will seem natural very quickly.
