This is the case I am planning on getting. As of right now I have a Antec KS282 case and I love it. It's roomy inside, nice and sturdy, and no sharp edges. However, it set me back a good 90 bucks. That's too much for my duron system. Hell, I only paid 60 bucks for the CPU.
Anyway, as of right now with 1 120mm front intake fan, 1 80mm exhaust fan, and 1 120mm exhaust blowhole up top, my case temp is 33C/91F at idle after a week (it's always on). My cpu temp is 47C/117F at idle as well. CPU temp usually goes up to 50C under full load. This is a Asus A7V motherboard with a Duron 600 overclock'd to 824 right now (temps are the BARELY higher at 900mhz). I'm using a Globalwin FOP-32 /w stock fan (the old version - black one). I know those temperatures a quite high, but I'm working on lowering it.
The case that I want to buy up top is only 31 bucks ship'd. ONLY drawback I see other than it being a little flimsy (weighs like 18lbs total) and having some sharp edges is that the powersupply sits vertically which blocks the cpu and heatsink/fan. I measured the case up top and from the motherboard tray to the powersupply, it is roughly 53cm. From the motherboard tray of the Antec KS282 to the TOP of the heatsink/fan it is 45cm. So I know that my motherboard, cpu, and heatsink/fan will fit in that case up top. However it's only 8cm away from the powersupply which prolly gets REALLY hot. Will this affect cpu temperature? The only good thing about the case up top OVER the Antec KS282 I have now is that since the powersupply sits vertically, it leaves some room up top for another fan. I can add a 80mm fan rite there having it blow TOWARDS the cpu (but sideways at the hsf not down at it like a side fan would do on a normal case), which should cool the heatsink better rite? or is it better to have anotehr blowhole there since hot air rises. Basically with the case up top I plan to have 1 120mm intake fan in the front, NO back exhaust fans (no room as you can see in the pix), 1 80mm intake fan up top blowing at the cpu (or another exhaust fan there if it's better), 1 120mm exhaust fan up top (blowhole), 1 intake 120mm side fan blowing at my video card.
Also, I plan on getting the Alpha PEP66 heatsink/fan for my Duron 600..... first of all, does that heatsink/fan fit the socket A? I hear you have to shave the feet off the hsf or the pads off the cpu but other than that it will fit. I like the pep66 cuz the fan is on the side. Anyone know how tall the Alpha PEP66 hsf is? I hope it'll fit this cheap case.
Well that's my plan, I really dunno much about cooling, I am just thinking by what makes sense to me. Please let me know if this idea is stupid or won't help case/cpu temps at all. As long as the cpu temps stay under 50C and the case temp is under 35C, i'm pretty much fine with that. Hopefully it'll be less with all those fans and the new Alpha PEP66... If you have any other ideas or better suggestions, please let me know before I go and buy that case up there. Oh, i and KNOW about the enlight case and the other GOOD but value cases, but they ALL cost over 50 bucks, which in my book, is too much for my system. So that is definitely out of the question, so lets just pretend those dont' exist for now. Oh, and all the fans that I am using, I get for free (except the heatsink/fan)..... dont' ask how..... hehe..... I just do.......
