I just purchased the VisionTek HD3850 256MB PCI-e version of ATI's mid-range card and was hoping that this was a reliable brand a worthy upgrade from my XFX 6600GT AGP.

I was also getting a new motherboard to fit this upgrade, it was a cheap.. and I will be upgrading before the years out, but was wondering if this was a decent make/model:

MSI K9VGM-V AM2 VIA K8M90

I just bought a AM2 MSI board the K9MM-V and it has a bad onboard sound, think I'll run into anything with this MSI boarD?

IMO if you have bad onboard sound that doesn't mean board is bad. Until recently pretty much all mobos had terrible onboard sound. That's why people bought sound cards.

While it might have made sense to get 512mb version, this would be a solid boost from 6600GT nonetheless.

The 256MB 3850 not only is much faster than the 6600GT, but has double the RAM.

As for the motherboard, why are you getting a VIA chipset board? Typically the Nvidia and AMD chipset boards offer more "enthusiast" features, even in the mATX size - you just have to choose the right board.

Well I technically shouldn't be asking, the parts are due to arrive in about 8 hours LOL. I was just wondering if I made a bad decision on my budget, I'm only running 1024x768 or MAX resolution of 1440x900 to fit my native LCD. I won't be using much AA/AF, as long as I can run most new games 1024x768 no AA/AF on highest with a steady 40+ fps.

So is this BAD what I bought? please say its not SO.

By bad onboard sound I mean it squeels and squeeks it's really bad and annoying... trust me, it's not a normal effect.

When you buy first then ask for opinions, you have to pay the price.

If you have no money, it seems you'd want opinions before buying anything, not afterwards.

Bit late to get advice on your purchase now.

But seeing as you just want your buyer's guilt assuaged, here:

That's a pretty good card for the money and will make a big difference compared to your old card.

PS: Run your games at your LCD's native resolution or they'll appear dithered and of inferior clarity.
