how will the big review sites test Barcelona/Phenom/Agena?

Stock speeds assuming they get the units in, as these are Server processors with no intention of being overclocked.

until someone sticks a pair in a 4x4 board.

I think anand will overclock them (he usually does) and then give us the performance after that.

What a pointless thread.

Barcelona release means nothing anyway, these are server chips. People are waiting for Phenom X2 and X4 chips which are still months away.

Are you going to go into every Barcelona thread stating it's "dumb" or "pointless"?
Please keep your thread crapping to a minimum. - Thank you.

I think even know it's server grade, it's same core as the consumer stuff, you can at least get a nice trend for family of chips.

Yes and no...it was much easier to extrapolate for C2D because the vast majority of the upgrade was the core. With K10 however, the Barcelona is HT2 while the Phenom is HT3.
There is also the fact that Agena will be on a new stepping as well (which is reputed to clock MUCH higher and be more efficient).
The Agena and higher clocked Barcelonas are still scheduled for a November launch (2 months after Barcelona).

I've seen many reports that agena will launch at 2.4-2.6. that's not a confirmation of a new stepping, but considering that they're stuck at 2.0 at barcelona's launch it seems reasonable. also, viditor has inside amd info ;)

People have been talking about this miracle stepping for months now, with no sign of any tangible proof that it exists. Let's just put it to rest until we can see it and touch it ourselves.

Just to be clear, this isn't something I've seen myself (though it does come from engineers whose word I trust).
What was told to me was that Rev B0 was originally to be the production stepping for shipping in Feb/March and launch in early June. It looked like it was going to test well, but then they started to find the broken bits...for instance they could only get one of the dual 128 bit loads to work at a time, especially when they went past 1.6 GHz. This is the stepping that they demoed earlier this year, and it was a pig!
The B1 rev is probably what most review sites now have and what will have been shipped in the first batch (remember that the first chips are the HE and SP versions...not the SE).
The B2 rev is all about getting the clockspeeds up for the SE versions, and they are due to ship in Nov (which means that production has already started).
The B3 rev is for Agena and will include the HT3 memory controller (which isn't in Barcelona) as well as the tweaks from B2.

I understand and agree with Toadster's skepticism, and as I am getting this secondhand I am keeping the salt shaker handy as well...that said, I believe these sources well enough to make investments based on what they say. I can't really say more than that...
