We will fix inequality either through elections or guillotines.

I don't think so. I used to, but I have a new theory. The 1% already have an escape plan that they have been working on for several decades to get away when things start to fall apart in the US. They have slowly been working in China to set up a government and economic system that is tailored to allowing them to maintain their elite status, with freedoms for the rich, and submission by the poor. It is coming close to completion, and that is why they are ramping up the money grabs in the US. They know the end is near, and are bleeding us dry of the last of our wealth before they abandon us to our fate.

How the hell can you tell what politics will be in 20 to 30 years when it only took 3.5 years to turn the Republican party into Russian lovers.

I don't usually humor dystopian alt-timelines or conspiracy stuff, but yeah. I just have this weird feeling that at some point the ultra wealthy just go the way of the Elves in Lord of the Rings and sail off to some other society and leave the world of men to deal with itself. Or somewhere in the middle is Altered Carbon with the Meths transcending to demi-god status and creating a separate society to entertain themselves.

That's all fantasy land fiction at this point. But the idea is as you said. The rich are just going to peace out, setup a new society and leave the rest of us to fend for ourselves creating a new power vacuum to cease.

I'll ask the question from a different POV. Do you really think this is a #bothsides problem? I stick to my earlier quote to show who should shoulder the lion's share of fault...

COVID-19 has exposed several weaknesses of this country. Malfeasance of the Republican Party is one of them

It is a both sides problem. That said, the GOP is on a tear right now.

Yep, all they need is immortality ala Zardoz.

I see the nature of our politics as a reflection of the nature of our fears.

The end of WWII left America supremely self confident and liberal ideas thrived, but it was a soap bubble that was easily burst by stress. It turns out that we all line on a tiny speck of dust floating in the vastness of space plagued by enormous complexities our needy egos can’t bear to face. Our fear of insignificance, fueled by the unrequited needs of childhood emotional neglect at the hands of fearful conformist parents leave us thirsty for supreme leader who will proclaim he knows the way and will protect and care for us.

With the daily drumbeat of international and local news beamed into everyone's living room anxieties proliferate as well as propaganda promising safety here and terror pointed to over there, the question I suggest for consideration is if in 20 or 30 years we will actually experience change that is novel and different so much as it is cyclical like the swing of a pendulum. What I believe is that we are stuck on a wheel on karma driven by the law that we create what we fear. Humanity is asleep driven by the objective to never to reexperience the terror that we feel.

We don’t need political change because that is mechanical, driven by the latest notions of what we should fear. What we need is to awaken to the conscious awareness of our psychological condition.

Ain't no billionaire oligarchs moving to and physically living in China. China is just transforming itself into a late-stage capitalist money siphon at record speeds. They've just about completely skipped the middle class portion, and are heading straight to 0.0001% owning nearly everything, 10% upper management owning everything else, and a bunch of pleb serfs to do all the actual work required to "create wealth" by burning natural resources as fast as possible.

Oligarchs already have everything they need to be "International" citizens. They have enough money to purchase residency/citizenship anywhere. The corporations they own and control shelter money for them, and they have enough cover to move that money wherever they need to.

When they've finished gaining control over the economic machine of the US, they'll either remain in their gated estates with armed protection, or they'll move to one of the European/Oceanic socialist hellholes where they'll still get all the luxuries of a first world country, while continuing to shelter their income in the numerous places they already shelter it.

All we're witnessing is the last gasp of a sovereign country and population attempting to fight off the oligarch parasites. That's what all of this is.

And they've almost won. They're in spitting distance to the finish line, and they'll do anything to complete it. There's literally trillions of dollars of value that they can siphon into their own accounts and it'll just take another 4-8 years to destabilize the government enough to do it.

Vote accordingly.
