How will 2 different hard drives affect overall speed

I am about to purchase one of the SATA raptor drives. I have a WD 7200rpm 20 Gig ATA/166 eide drive currently working in my pc. If I use the raptor for the system drive, will the other drive slow down the system performance wise if it is just used as a secondary drive? Or will I only notice the performance decrease when accessing the older drive?

And I'm sure this question has already been posted, but I couldn't find an answer in my search. Is the performance of two ATA/166 7200rpm drives setup in a RAID 0 any better than the raptor drive?

Thanks,
Jay:confused:

First off, there is no such ATA/166 drive. I can only assume you mean ATA/66? You will probably notice an increase in boot speed using the raptor as your boot drive, most reviews so far have indicated they were able to detect the computers booting a little faster. Using the other drive as a secondary will not slow down your system, only accesses to that drive will be slower (when compared to the raptor).

I don't know for sure whether two ATA/66 drives in RAID 0 are faster than a raptor, but I doubt it.
