How/where would I find information on the average cost to build a new home in my area?

I was just wondering, curiosity mostly, how much it would cost to build a home in my area (Cleveland), particularly the surrounding 'burbs. I'd imagine it's typically measured in price per square ft? Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

I would probably start by calling a home builder in the area. But that is just me.

I would try contacting area builders and asking them what their usual range is. Price per square foot is a common meassure. You can spend as much as you want, possibilities are endless.

Would they provide me with information even if I had no interest at all in building a house at this point in time?

I need some information, mainly for curiosity, partly for a school project.

Just look in the papers to see what new homes are selling for.

Yes, unless they are jerks. Tell them you're considering your options and are just calling for a quick price check.
