How well would a Ti 4600 play UT2k4?

I need something incredibly cheap that would play ut2k4 at decent framerates.
Could I play with everything turned up at 10x7?
Thanks!

Or would it be worth the wait (how long?) til the G70 comes out and then go buy a 6600gt (Its at 170 now....how much would it go down)?

BTW I've got a gig of ddr333 ram and a barton 2500+.

very well paired with that rig, i'd say 1280 maxxed out settings with very acceptable fps.

Whoa I thought I could get that or the 4400/4600 for like 50$.....
definately not. Thats rather dissapointing, I thought I was getting a real deal!

I was looking at the mx4000. I'm sure thats an entirely different story.

Maybe I should just wait til the 6600gt goes down after the 7800 comes out (how long?)

Hm what about the MX440 [lol]?

Yeah, it'd do quite well. I have a GeForce 4 Ti 4800SE in a Barton 2500+ with a gig of 2100, and it runs it quite well(mishmosh systems 4 win).

Hmm, newegg's got the radeon 9550 for under 50....by Amigo....whoever that is.

Moving on, a 9600Se is in my price range. But I think those suck, no?
A FX5500 (57$ after 15$ rebate)?

I know I want to get a 6600gt for the HD decoding and decent perf. in d3 and hl2 and whatnot...but I simply can't spend that much money on a card until it goes down....I've just taken out a 17k$ loan for GT and need to save any cash I've got for necessities.

But this RIVA TNT 2 is killing me lol...have to have something that would let me play pseudo decently for the next year before I can buy a 6600GT.

One other thing.....I've got a 19" CRT, so maybe something with less AA/AF hit would be the better choice? (maybe the radeon 9550/9600 over the fx5500?)

Thanks so much guys.

i can play ut2005 very nicely on my gfs and my parents gf4 mx440 and 420 respectively (on a 2ghz nwood celeron and 2ghz nwood p4 respectively ;)) at 1024 middling settings and perfectly quick framerates...if that helps?

much nicer eyecandy on my 2.1ghz Axp and 9800 pro (1280 everything maxed out ;)) but in terms of actual gameplay/fun there is little difference between the systems IMO.

Ya, it does.
I had an old system with a TNT2, didn't run the original Unreal Tournament with that great settings, I wouldn't even like to think of it running UT2k4.

This is really quite the shameless plug, but you can look at the link to the FS thread in my sig. I'm looking to sell my 9700Pro with passive cooling, and am willing to negotiate. Bump for more ideas.

I think I've going to go ahead and just buy an MSI 6600GT with VIVO and a new power supply.....that should be the last upgrade to really bring my whole system up to par with itself. Right now everything but the PSU and vid card is good.

Sorry I can't buy. If it weren't for VIVO and linux, I'd buy your 9700Pro.

Hell no. You'll need to turn off AF and AA and even then you might struggle.

as i've said i can run ut2005 at medium settings at 1024 on a p42ghz/gf4mx420 or a celeron2ghz/gf4mx440....even on a 2000+xp/gf4mx440...

I'm running a GF3 Ti200 (overclocked to the point of a few vertex artifacts), on a 2GHz Williamette. At 1280x1024, with most things either at normal, or turned down one setting, physics on high, and AA@2xQuincunx and AF@2x, it chugges a little bit, but it's playable. Oh, and this is on Linux, and Folding is still on in the BG @ nice 19. And if I turned off AA and AF, it would be very smooth.

Hell, even the Doom3 demo could be run acceptably.

Obligatory 9550 warning: If you decide to get a Radeon 9550, be very careful to make sure it's a 128 bit card and not a 64 bit card. Apparently ATI allowed some of the manufacturers to play games with the memory interface, unfortunately, and some of the 9550's are only 64 bit as a result.

Ut2k4 plays fine on my GeForce 3 Ti 500, and much better on my Ti 4200.

Maybe I should just wait til the 6600gt goes down after the 7800 comes out (how long?)

The 6600 GT is MUCH faster than any GF4. It'll run AA/AF with no trouble.

with a pentium 1.5 m and a 9200 se, 800 x 600 on ut is usually at 50-60 fps with all detail on lowest...but the game is very cpu bound...neither of those cards make a better/worse difference fom a 9200.

My GF FX 5200 Ultra (crappy card, I know, but I'm a very casual gamer...), on an AXP 2800+ Barton, plays UT2k4 fine at 1024x768, so I think any GF4 will play UT2k4 well, especially since my card is roughly equal to the Ti 4200.

Heh...I remember the TNT2. My last machine (Athlon 800) had one of those...back in the day, it played whatever I bought fine, up until around the time SimCity 4 and GTA3 came out.

Girlfriend has a mobile 2400+ at 3200+ speeds with a ti4200 128mb agp 8x stock speed card. Plays UT2004 like a dream. Also good on Farcry, CS:S, all of the Splinter Cells, Raven Shield, etc.
