Been reading up on Porsche's history in off-road vehicles... Honestly, I think the Cayenne will be an awesome contender. i guess it'll depend on the way the market the car, but I could see this thing becoming a true off-road king. I had completely forgotten about the 959's offroad performance. 450 hp, bi-turbo flat 6, killer tourque, all wheel drive... the thing flew through rallies. Plus with Porsche's contruction quality and engineering genious... gawd... the only draw back would be the sticker price. But I guess if you could afford it... it would be an awesome experience!

I'm sure it can handle some gravel road and some bumps here and there. With the SUV craze around, I'm sure it will be a huge success for Porsche, maybe the biggest seller yet, if the price is comparable with the other luxury SUV out there.

The porsche engine is proven powerful and reliable, so I can say that the Cayenne will go find.

Dude... download the vids I posted, 911's rippin it up!!!.... I'm sure it will be able to handle a lot more than some gravel and bumps...... Especially if someone was to do a couple of mods to it, like give it a lift job and some larger wheels.... but even without em...

I don't like the idea of a Porsche 4x4 any more than I liked the idea of a liquid-cooled Porsche, but all good things must come to an end I guess. Given Porsche's success in the Paris-Dakar Rallies, I don't think it will be too much of a stretch to assume that the Cayenne will perform well enough off road. I still think they put the engine in the wrong end of the thing though.

Diehard Porsche Fundamentalist.....;)

Aside from you biased oppinion of Porsche (who's history includes making tractors) making only sports cars, you have to agree that this will be a great vehicle, no?

Ahhh, you forget that those tractors were at air-cooled though. (Didn't think I'd know about the tractors, didja? :p ) Yes, the Cayenne will be a very nice vehicle, and I have every reason to believe that it will sell well for Porsche, however I don't see it becoming as collectible as a 356 or a 911 (or even a 928). I still think of Porsche as an excellent firm that builds some of the best engineered vehicles, and I was pleased to see the Boxster knock off the 968 and put the engine back where it belonged (anywhere behind the driver). I wonder though if the Cayenne will at least have floor-hinged pedals...

It'll perform exactly the same as any other Cyrix processor- terribly. I don't understand this fixation about taking a computer processor with you when you get out in the boonies, it isn't going to do you any good out there. Why would you want a Cyrix anyway- they run hot and they use some wierd Pentium Rating which no one believes!

Oh, you were talking about cars...

At least it is going to have low range gearing.

That shows they are somewhat serious about this thing going off road. BTW, the spy shots I have seen of this thing don't make it look like a very good looking vehicle.

Spy photos make it look like an MDX (what I'm driving while my dad is in India) with a Porsche 911 hood and headlights. Of course, its still nearly a year away so I expect there may still be major differences between what we're seeing now and what we'll get.

It'll be interesting to see a test between the Cayenne and the Infiniti FX45.
