"fair"

EDIT/UPDATE

*wrong* ... i used ATi Tray Tools .. the vRAM doesn't OC ... not even to 704 ... :p

BUT . ... i got the core from 580 to 608 ...

so better 'n nuthin' :p

3DMark05 went from 10259 at stock to 10503 [core was 604]
and

3DMark06 at stock 5199 went to 5302 [core at 608]

it's back to stock ... minimal gain ...
=======================================================

... really really CRAP ... :|

No OC :p

*anything* over the stock settings crashes
:Q

are these x1950p's OC'ing "dogs" or did i get a "special" one ?

I think it is your weak 850 watt PSU I heard these puppies need a 1 KW psu ;) Actually I have no idea but I find it hard to believe that there is Zero oc'ing headroom.

** edit................... You could follow your own advice though "If at first you don't succeed . . . quit!"

i *did quit* ... +1 Mhz is NOT an OC

that is WHY i am posting this thread ... to see how *others* did with their x1950p OC ;)

my doesn't get +5Mhz on either the vRAM or the Core :p

which IS strange

I've been hearing that the X1950 Pro is a highly clocked GT w/o the OC headroom, and, if you go to gpureview.com, the specs are basically identical except for clock speeds. Disappointing, huh? My 7900 GTO has basically the same relationship to the 7900 GT.

:p

EDIT: Doesn't overdrive work? That should be better than +1 MHz. And what about GPU/mem voltages in ATITool?

We'll see what happens with that HD-2900XT though. :D

powercolor x1950pro 256 extreme edition Has factory overclock to 595/700

I have pushed this to 645/702 without artifacts
the temperature sits at 50c though.
Im not sure of the temp envelope for these so I have backed it down to 620/702.
(anyone with a reccomendation of what the highest temp I shouldnt pass please reply)

I use atitool 0.27(beta)

Anytime I try to move up the memory speed I get flickering.

edit: pci express version

glad you mentioned HD2900xt

:D

... managed to snap a picture of water-cooled Radeon HD 2900XT, which is set for launch this coming Monday. ...
... One of interesting features of R600 GPU is that the card can overclock faster as the temperature gets lower (due to small problem of leaking current in the same way as Intel Prescott did). If you are able to keep the GPU in 20-30degC range, huge overclocks are easily doable

Back to *my problem* ...

sure Overdrive works ... as it "starts" to OC, the screen "pulsates" a couple of times then goes to WHITE :Q
--of course, using CCC ... and i am NOT gonna fool with voltage increases ...
Sapphire has that stupid $15 rip-off RMA charge ...

how 'well' do you *other guys* OC your x1950p ?

visiontek x1950 pro agp 256
just played ut 2004 for 1/2 hour without any problem at 619/729
using ati tray tools, low level
I never pushed the gpu to the limit, but with ati tester the memory artifacts at 750
factory clocks are at 574/688

my bench score in ati tool trays is 6254.52 at 641.25/742.50

it's good to know that it's only mine :p
[581/702]

or it's the 512MB version that lacks [my 256MB VisionTek x1950p OC'd decently]
or perhaps it's the Cat 4s ...

or perhaps i should try tray tools
OD used to OC my ATi GPUs

i will explore further

at least my e4300 is rock solid from 1.8G > 2.81Ghz
:)

My sapphire can manage about 15mhz over stock on the core and about 20mhz on the memory, anything over that just crashes the system.

so I would say that my sapphire overclocks like sh!t.

at least we can OC the CPUs

... a LOT !

:)

i am beginning to think the SAPPHIRE 512MB version is already clocked about as far as it will go :p

they probably made a fortune on that [cheaply made] "GPU package"

i think i will look for 'other than Sapphire' ... from now on ... for AMD gfx ;)
--especially considering their $15 ripoff RMA scam

EDIT: Stock speeds are [580/700] for my x1950p

why is my setup scoring way better than their in 3DMarkXX ?

Mine will do 634 stable core all day , memory doesn't budge much for at all (10MGhz). I'm on PCIe though. I was reluctant to post though since the request was for agp boards . I think Rialto may be some of the core frequency problems though , or cooling apparatus .

They used a P4 3.0 GHz w/ 1 GB PC3200 for the tests since it's an AGP test. Most people don't use C2D chips in boards with AGP cards, of course. Don't you just love "real world" testing methods?

well i *was* pretty sleepy
BUT ... i was *shocked* to see i scored almost TWICE as well in 3DMark05
--and i DID score over 8K with that 3.31Ghz P4 w/1GB DDR :p
--over 9K with the P4 EE/ w 1GB PC3500
--over 10 with the C2D w/2 GB PC 6400

heck ... with that "same" weak-ass P4/DDr, i got over 6,000 with my x850xt and 6500 with the 7800GS OC

--theirs is "real low" in their "real world"

i gave the wrong impression

"How Well Does Your x1950p OC ?

your x1950p IS 'special' also ... i just especially wanted to see what forum members were getting with my *same* card

thank you for the comparison with PCIe !
[my next major HW purchase is to be a PCIe GPU ... then xfire/sli MB]

at least mine OCs ... a little

but i certainly won't keep it OC'd ... the perf gain is really minimal - at least, judging by the 3DMarkXX increase

I'd be interested in seeing the fps gain in a newer game, especially the minimums?

You might find it marginally worth it? A few fps in a marginal zone is often the difference between playable and unplayable :)

Hey Apoppin

I haven't messed with OC'ing my Diamond Viper X1950PRO 512 in a while but I did use ATI Tool 0.27 when I first got it too OC to 621/715 (1430 eff) anything higher and I was unstable or had artifacts. It gave me a whopping 4pt increase in 3dm05. (how's that for a CPU bottleneck :p )

I've basically left it at stock since then as I don't want to have to RMA again.

BTW before I could OC I had to go to the X1000 Overclocking tab in ATI Tool and select "Driver Level Overclocking" otherwise I couldn't OC the memory. So if you haven't done that give it a shot.

I found that if my 6800GS was artifacting (much beyond 500/1380) my 3dmock scores took a dive, even if it was stable enough to complete the benchmark...

Interesting. I don't think I was artifacting at those speeds according to ATI Tools tester but it might explain the small increase. Or it could just be my dog slow Prescott :p
