You might find it marginally worth it? A few fps in a marginal zone is often the difference between playable and unplayable :)

less than marginally worth it

my CPU has a *real* OC ... from 1.8Ghz to 2.81Ghz ... with *noticeable* performance increases

OTOH, the x1950p manages to go from 580 to 608 on the core and scores +200 marks in 10K ... or +2% "performance gain"

after dealing with Sapphire's Brain-Dead RMA people, i would not want to take *any chance* -- for only 2 percent - of encountering them again
[although that would *force* an upgrade to GTX or HD-XT]
:Q

so far ... *nothing* with my x1950p is "marginal" ... it runs STALKER with *everything* absolutely maxed in game over 30 FPS ...

letsee +2% might give me +0.5 FPS increase ... if it isn't already limited by my CPU
i won't get ANY more "details"

NOT "worth it" - imo

i'd rather OC my CPU further - or lower details

-OR

much better

buy a NEW GPU when i am dissatisfied with my current one
============

and Paratus, yes, your CPU does hold you back ...
however, if you OC your CPU or GPU too much - at the "edge" of instability -
you 3DMarkXX score may go down

i OC'd my CPU beyond stability ... and got a lower 3DMark06 score ... that's when i *settled* on 2.81Ghz for my e4300 ... i can get much higher with a better MB

Just wanted to chime in that my Sapphire x1950pro does not overclock using the CCC Overdrive utility. I'm getting the exact same scenario that you have described.

=(

:p

EDIT: Doesn't overdrive work? That should be better than +1 MHz. And what about GPU/mem voltages in ATITool?

We'll see what happens with that HD-2900XT though. :D

Bear in mind that the Radeon X1900GT is based on the R580 (X1900XT) and the X1950PRO is based on a new and less power hungry core, the RV570 which is based on a 80nm (Kinda budget process like the 110nm) process compared to the X1900GT which is based on a 90nm process which has higher quality components inside and is able to run at higher speeds and consumes far more power.

The Radeon X1950PRO phisically doesn't have the missing 4 pixel pipelines and the 12 pixel shaders, which the X1900GT has but they're disabled by default. The X1950GT is also based on the X1950PRO core, like the X1650XT.
