How well does the 2.53 P4 overclock?

I just picked one up from googlegear.com and was just curious.

BTW, what would be the best way to go about overclocking this CPU? I haven't bought a board yet but I'm leaning towards the ASUS P4S8X when it's released.

Probably the best chip to attain 3ghz...It would only take 158fsb to get to it...

I would avoid sis648 chipsets unless the asus will be the anamoly of the bunch so far and oc pretty well....Most seem to be having some issues running 400mhz ddr and high fsb's..IE like the sis645 chipset as well...

with a 158fsb you could get a i845e mobo and get 421mhz ddr with a 3:4 ratio or just at 400mhz with a 4:5 ratio like on the asus p4b533-v or Epox 4g4a mobo...
 
Rick67, my 2.53GHz P4 is running at 2.85GHz at default voltage with the stock heatsink/fan/thermal pad. This is the maximum my i850E motherboard will allow me to overclock (150FSB is the max), so Duvie's estimate of about 3GHz seems to be fairly accurate.

I must agree, try to find a mobo that can go at least 158 fsb, then you will most likely see 3.0GHz! g'luck in your choice!

Crap!! I just got the 2.53 with an asus p4b533-e board, 1 stick 512 corsair xms 3200 cas2 ram and can only get 2.83 at 149fsb 🙁 . I dunno what the deal is. Wont even post at 158fsb. Any ideas?
 
the larger the multiplier....(i think your is 19)
the difference of 1mhz in front bus could mean stability or not...
assuming you dont go to crazy w/ the voltage.

Are you using stock cooling?
Have you raised the core voltage up to 1.7v
 
Yeah I'm using stock cooling. I didn't bump the voltage higher cuz it didn't seem to help any when i was at 158. I bumped it up to 1.65. Right now I'm at 1.6. I believe that is default voltage and board only goes up to 1.7. I didn't wanna give too much voltage that's why i try to keep it at low as possible. I believe i was at 1.65V when i tried 150fsb and prime crashed after 7mins! :| Right now i'm only at 149FSB. So no DDR400! :frown: Man, woulda liked to at least have my ram running at what it's rated at. At least it's running at 2/3/3/7.
 
My system specs are:

Intel Pentium 2.53GHz @ 3.1GHz 1.8v in bios but Asus probe shows 1.85
Asus P4B533-V
Corsair 3200 CL 2
Geforce ti 500

I can run 160 fsb at 1.7 volts STABLE!!!

curently running 163Fsb With a cpu/mem ratio of 4:5!!!!!!!
 
wow that is pretty good, hooligan. I was thinking of getting the asus -V board, but decided on the -E board cuz it would have future support of hyperthreading. But wow 3.1 is pretty good. What date is ur cpu?

Tested a ABIT IT7 on my current rig and
Im able to run my memory 426MHz!!!!!!

My current specs are now:
Intel 2.53 @ 3050 only 1.7v!!!
corsair 3200 CL 2 @ 426MHz!!!!! (160FSB*3/4 ratio)
Havent tryed enything further tough (butt i will 🙂
The memory will run mutch higher wit the Abit it7 and the cpu doesent need 1.8 to get to 3GHz!!!!
 
Ok!

Fixed a problem i had..... I selected 1.7v in the bios but it only gave a tru vcore voltage of 1.66 on the Abit IT7
I then preformed the pin volltage mod and can now choose between 1.1v-1.85v i set it on 1.75 and it does now deliver 1.71v
And the results are :
Intel 2.53GHz @ 3163GHz
FSB of 166.49MHz
Memory at 444MHZ!!!!!!! (2.7v)
Iwant to go higher but dont think the momory would let me!! AAAWWWW FUC*!!!
