Just ordered Stalker from gogamer for $9 :) should be here next week. I was wondering how well it will run on my system which includes a 8800GT SC. I game at 1680x1050 and like to use max AF and some AA, anyone playing the game can to chime in :)

AFAIK Stalker supports only 2xAA forced through the control panel with nvidia cards (it doesnt work at all with ATI cards though :( :(). It also takes a pretty large performance hit from what I remember people saying.

Without AA though, max settings + 16xAF will run easily at 60+fps.

edit: Also I would reccomend getting the Stalker Weather Overhaul 2.0 mod + Float32 mod for the best graphics, and maybe the Oblivion Lost mod if you find that the stock gameplay could be improved :)

It should run fine at that resolution.

AA in stalker is borked when HDR is enabled, so don't even bother playing with the settings. I found that the HDR was more a boon than the AA when playing at 1900x1200. Also, the environments are so dense that you probably will not notice the jaggies anyway.

As schneiderguy mentioned, you should get the latest Float32 shader mod.

I would also suggest just skipping over the default game experience, and go right ahead and mod the game for your first play-through.

Vanilla Stalker kind of ... blows. Find a realism mod, or toy with the Simbion mod. It might break some of the original storyline quests for you, but it's a much richer and challenging experience.

If you are playing stalker for the first time i would recommend the following mods for your first run thru. These will enhance the vanilla game, with basically no changes to the original plot.

1) Patch to official 1.0005 (1.0006 is for multiplayer fixes).

2) Install the Mod: Zone Reclamation Project - This is sort of an 'unofficial' patch - has many bug fixes and optional enhancements (recommended ones i remember include removing the headbob, real weapon names, increasing the carry weight, improved flashlight).

3) Install the mod: Stalker Weather Overhauled 2.2 - This includes new weather effects and sharper textures effectively giving the game completely new graphics. Also improves performance noticeably.

4) Install the mod fix: Stalker Weather Overhauled Update 2.2.2

Note that you dont want to have Float32 installed if you use Weather Overhauled.

Runs great on high detail on my x1650 512MB @ 1680 x 1050.

Oh i forgot to mention... dont bother playing the game with only static lighting - absolutely positively play with dynamic lighting. With the lights off and the sound up.

Mine runs it wonderfully. Sometimes I like AA on it so I'll switch it to Static lighting and with that I can run 16xS (nHancer AA) with 60+ fps constantly. With no AA and Dynamic lighting it sometimes maybe drops below 50 fps, but rarely.
