How well do speed cameras work in the rain?

It's raining moderately hard.
I was going 30 in a 25 when a car sped past me.
Then i saw the speed camera flash in front of me.

That surprised me. Thought they don't work in the rain?

Can't see why they would not work, the drops of rain are very small compared to cars so they can probably tell the difference. Though I guess heavy rain would probably blanket the radar and it would not "see" cars.

I wonder how those work for multi lane roads, wonder if someone passing you could end up with you getting the ticket, or if it knows which car that's going faster. I've heard horror stories of parked cars getting tickets from nearby red light cameras.

I recently got nailed by a portable speed trap, no ticket in the mail yet though. I totally forgot about a zone that got dropped from 60 to 50 and was doing 70. Oops. My fault, should pay more attention to my speed, and signs.

Different wavelengths of radar are affected differently by rain, but in most cases the range is just reduced. Since speed cameras don't have a very long range, they probably aren't affected at all.

You're more likely to hopefully get some reflection from the flash off a torrential downpour that makes the license plate unreadable.

Damn, I'm glad I live in a state where tickets via speed cameras are illegal. Around here they're just a LED sign with a green "THANK YOU" if you're going under, a yellow "WARNING" if you're at the speed limit or slightly above, and a red "SLOW DOWN" with white flashes if you're maybe 5+ MPH above the limit. I trigger them all the time. Only once has there been a cop car hiding behind the sign; that one scared the crap out of me.
