Would it be stupid to look at 99-01 Porsche Boxters? :)

I seem to recall there were some fairly major issues with the early Boxsters. Not sure about the later ones though. I heard this from a co-worker (woman) who bought one. Still, it's a chicks car.

Many people have told me that they are getting much better.

I don't know numbers, but their servicing and maintenence won't be cheap. Cheap in my mind is what a honda/toyota would cost to maintain and service.

Since you're looking for used, what price range and how many miles you would buy it with?

The reason I asked price range is because I wanted to ask if you've considered others cars in the price range.

Most chronic problems were related to the 97 and early 98 models so from a point of view of picking good years, those should be good years

With that price range, are you willing to look at other brands? There are other options like the MR2 Spyder, S2000, etc. that you may like.

Hate the mr2, s2000 is nice as well.

Would love a new RX-8, but hard to find high mileage leases on those at a decent price. I put 1,500-2,000 miles per month on my car.

Then I would definetly consider an S2000. Even though Porsche reliability has improved, Honda is still above it from what I've seen.

I ran a quick search on autotrader for 20k and under for S2000's nearby and there were plenty. You shouldn't have trouble finding a good one. You might want to check insurance rates as well when deciding which one.

The S2000 will have more aftermarket products available too :)

That's a great reccomendation, but I personally don't like the 6 cylinders because I feel there are too many of them around in general because I haven't seen a 2005 on the road yet. In $20k, he can only get the 6 cylinder model, that is if he buys new because you mentioned a new mustang in your post

Hate the mr2.

Ok, the new gen MR2 sucks, but how about a 91-95 (if you could find one of the 300 made) MR2 Turbo??

We had 2 mustangs in the past, they always seem to be a fairly cheap build. I dunno, just lots of plastic and cheap components....

Maybe they new design will be better...

I'd get an M powered Z3 over a Boxster any day of the week.. have you considered this?

IMO it's a much better car.

Well My input will be short.

Yes Buy a boxster..

Make sure to look at the 2000+ boxsters as the motor size was increased in 2000+
It went from 2.5 liters to 2.7 liters. The horse power differance between the 2.5 and the 2.7 is worth every dime.

The S models stayed the same at 3.2 liters

If you are going to buy a non S boxster buy a 2000+ model.

I have also had a MR2 Turbo with T-tops 1992. It was a great car.. But the boxster to me has a much better feel, ride and FUN factor..
I looked at the s2000 also, My wife works for Honda, and we could have gotten a steal on the s2000, but to me the quality of the honda was not even close to the Porsche.

They had some major problems until 2000. I have been looking at them, as well.
