Here's a suggestion:

Do well enough to get into a college you'll like with a decent amount of money in scholarships. Do not try to tax yourself by going to a college where you're getting absolutey no money. If you want to go to that college, research a cheaper, local college that your dream school will allow you to transfer credits over from.

...but I figure I'll endup in a "half-decent" school,I've never been the top of my class.:(

I did piss poor in high school. i had no motivation and regarded high school as worthless. I took a year off after that and just worked then i sorta changed... went to a community college then transferred to a pretty good university and actually went to class so I got decent grades- something like 3.4 overall avg by time I graduated which is not bad for someone as lazy as i was. was already an intern for my current job and just stayed as full time salaried

in hindsight i wouldn't have changed anything. i still look at high school as worthless

I was an average student in high school, all Bs. And now that I am in college, my grades have gone down a little bit. I have all Bs and Cs now. college is harder, and my personal life is the same as it was. i haven't really accomplished anything special, and i still have no job.

so, for me, its high school, except a lot harder.

FTW

I was a below average student, not becuase I'm stupid, more becuase I am lazy. I really wish now that I would have pulled my head out a lot earlier then my senior year, becuase I screwed around so much I only got two scholarships, and my last quarter I had a higher GPA than our class valedictorian

If only I hadn't screwed around so much :(

I averaged a 3.8 in HS, and I am a freshman at the college I've always wanted to go to... however, I should've applied to some other colleges, it was a stupid mistake that I've now realized.

Exactly how I feel and have right now minus the college part.I've always thought I can be better but procrastination really got to me.

4.09 GPA in high school. That doesnt really reflect how hard I tried in high school though. I just took quite a lot of honors and APs. I'm now a first year at UCSD.

Thats pretty much me.
Did better in the real world and thats why I have a decent job and lifestyle. (I think.)
Learned lots of good stuff in HS, but that didnt help me get or keep a job. It was my ability to learn AT work that helped me keep work and get better work.

Incidentally, I thought I was the only guy around here who used the expression "Piss Poor." ;)

Well, I'm a mixed bag. I'm pretty smart (33 ACT and National Merit Finalist), but I can be pretty lazy and video games easily distract me. I wish I could go back and get a GPA a little higher than 3.6 for scholarship sakes, but overall I'm happy w/ my experience. BTW, graduating in May and going to Alabama.

I still procrastinate like mad in college. However, its just how I do things. But, depending on what you are doing (major-wise) and how many hours you are taking, college could be either a good thing or bad thing. Also--yes, I'll be the first and only one to say it--don't party. I don't party and I still have a hard time. But then there are people who party all the time and they do great (I just presume they are cheating  ) HOWEVER, more often than not, I just hear people say how drunk they are going to get or how bad their grades are. Notice the correlation?

I never studied/did hw/etc. when I was in high school, one of those things where you can do reletively well without really trying. Umm, had I believe a 3.27 GPA by the end but somehow managed to get into a really really good school for engineering (UIUC)- standardized tests + writing skills ftw. Thats where the high school habits came back to kick me in the ass, because you can't do well without actually trying rather hard here. Like, more effort than your normal high school kid, and definately more effort than I ever put in. So currently, i'm on probation from last semester (failed chem), and looking at F's in 3/4 classes, trying to bounce back and stay in college (part of which is learning how to actually study), and seriously regretting slacking so much in HS.

Also rather ironic because I chose UIUC because I figured I could always transfer back to Va Tech (in-state) if I wanted to later, but now I'm on the verge of being kicked out and my grades arn't high enough to transfer so I'm kinda stuck..

Hmm, yeah. ftl.

Edit: For what its worth I'm in Computer Engineering and don't party even though UIUC is probably one of the larger party schools out there. I'm sure if I was in business I could afford to party and still do well. Heck... Econ is the only class I'm still passing (with an A), and I spend maybe an hour on it a week (homework), never go to lectures, and havn't gone to a single discussion session the entire semester). Compare to my engineering classes where I go to each lecture, all the discussions, do the homework, and still manage to fail the tests. But thats just the bitter engineer speaking ;)

I'm a Junior this year, with a 4.0. I'm a lazy bastard and still don't understand how I keep pulling out A's, but I manage.
