So long as you turn dynamic shadows off, high settings will be no problem.

A full 9800GTX with not too many more shaders will happily do high at 1920x1200 in my experience.

My girlfriend plays Borderlands on my old AMD 3700+, 8800GT 512MB video card, 2 gigs of ram, Win7.

Seems to run just fine at 1280x1024, High textures, Medium Details? (can't remember exactly), Low grass density, dynamic shadows, no AA, AF 8, bloom/blur turned off (she doesn't like that stuff). It still looks really nice and plays just fine.

The CPU is def the bottleneck in that system, even with a 400Mhz overclock to the base speed (2.2ghz base, 2.6ghz overclocked), but even so it runs most games at High just fine as long as I don't turn on any AA.
