How Weird is Verizon DSL?

I live in a Duplex... if you dont know its like a house for 2 fammilies, 2 kitches, and stuff. Anyways I have 2 lines in my and my parents house and 1 line in my Sisters house. I went to the DSL lookup online on Verizon site and neither of my numbers qualify! her number does. They sent her DSL kit. And gonna come try to install it in a few weeks, whats up with this? she only lives upstairs and they say shes qualified? I live about 19,000 from CO. Any recent attempts to install DSL on my line failed because we have old copper lines.

At the present time Verizon is the most screwed up ILEC in the country.

I went trough 7 1/2 weeks of pain with their incompetence. The only logical thing I heard from them during that time was that they were having problems with the merger.

Not problems like the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing, but problems like the right index not knowing where the right middle finger is. When it's just stuck up high in their management's azz.

Do my feelings answer your question?

Having said that, 19000' is way too far, and only by extreme luck you will get this to work. Don't get your hopes too high on their words. They can't speak coherently when they have their right middle finger tickling their Esophagus.

Look for cable instead. Or the satellite stuff. After they let your neighbor down that is...

I feel bad, I talked my mother into getting broadband and the only thing in her area was Verizon. She has had a lot of problems with them.

A lot depends on the area in which you live. In SW PA it's generally OK. I've been pretty well satisfied with it for a year and a half now. My wife just got an @Home cable hookup, which has been working fine since I got the DHCP connection bugs worked out, but that, too, depends on the area in which you live. With my DSL hookup, the old copper cable had to be replaced. The TelCo DSL line installers put the frequency splitter in the wrong place, but the DSL installer, who came the next day, fixed it, ran a direct cable from it to the wall jack near the computer, and the physical connection has worked fine ever since. There are occasional server downtimes, but no more than you'd get with any ISP.

Important thing is that, from the frequency splitter, the cable runs straight through to your wall jack - no intervening connectors to weaken the signal. They call it a "home run".

I live in Falmouth MA, and I ordered DSL from Verizon. They will be converting my line on the 22nd, I already recieved my modem a week ago. My friend in the same area as me has had Verizon for a few months now and he hasn't had a single problem, hopefully I won't either.

how far do u both live from CO? My friend and uncle both have Verizon and both live about 13,000feet away and both are happy.

The distance to the CO is only part of the problem.

I live only 2000' from the CO and have had DSL for two years now. But that didn't stop them from screwing me up all that they could in the last two months. So whatever they say, write it down and then check to see if it makes sense. It often doesn't.

I started up my DSL with Verizon last month, and have had excellent service with them. There were some link problems the first couple of days, and the verizon tech replaced all of the equipment on their end of the line. I haven't had any problems at all since then, and even recieved a couple of calls from the tech to verify the service was working properly!
FYI, I live in CA
