How was work/How was school?

No, it's the thought that counts (for me, anyways) - they're trying to initiate conversation - and when someone asks me that questions, I usually try to avoid replying w/ just an "ok" anyways.

I mean seriously, what other answer do you expect to hear 99 percent of the time other than 'ok.'

My girlfriend no longer asks me these questions. It might be relevant to somone who likes to complain a lot and hear themselves talk. I don't. I let her know that my answer will never be anything other than "fine", and that it frustrated me to have to keep saying it. Then I reinforced that by giving her a nonsensical answer every time she asked after that. Something like "Except for the blood-sucking aliens, I feel the day went well.... and upon further review, I shouldn't have shot that dog, it was only trying to be friendly."

Took her about a week to stop asking completely... except when she wants to hear what I'll come up with.

If I'm feeling particularly frisky I'll break into character:

/Big Gay Al "SSSuper! Thankss for Assking!!!!"

But yeah I hate that question.

Yeah, who would want to make small talk with their S.O. anyways?

I prefer real conversation. Not just mouthed rituals that don't really exchange any information. If you've asked me how "how was work" 50 times, and i've answered "it was work" 50 times, you don't have any reasonable expectation that asking that question is going to lead to anything meaningful.

Same as the "how'd you do on the test/exam?" question. Of course you say ok, otherwise you say I effed up and need to cry so hold me?

you sound like an asshole.

For what? For wanting to have a conversation of substance?

No, simply tell your SO that you'd prefer to avoid those types of questions and explain why. I had the same conversation with my wife, and guess what, she doesn't ask those types of filler questions.

Boring as fvck...more so than usual, too..I am the company operator today, so I've got nothing to do but neff and sit...neff and sit...neff and sit...

it could be just a way to gauge your mood by how you respond and lead into other conversations, i dont see what the big deal is
