How was Glory not even nominated for best picture?

I just saw Glory a couple weeks ago. Were civil war infantry really that stupid? Marching line abreast into rifle fire, not too bright.

um, there were no jet planes and scud missles in those times. sorry, if you were born in that time period and was in infantry, you would be used as a human shield as well.
