How vulnerable are wireless networks?

How hard is wireless encryption to bypass? If someone had access to your wireless network what sort of damage could they do? Can he keylog you or access your entire hard drive?

AFAIK you can't just bypass encryption, you have to put in the key somewhere somehow. If they got on your network well then it could be a security threat to your comp, but, if you have a firewall (which IMO everyone should really) they won't be able to get in too easily.

Unsecured wireless networks are just asking for trouble.

WEP...extremely easy. WPA, not so much

depends on who has access

he would still need to get the keylogger onto your system.
he would still need access to username & pw depending on security configuration.
If the system isn't locked down tight and the intruder has malicious intent, it could be devastating

search the Networking forum. I believe JackMDS has a guide on setting up your wireless network

just dont just the default admin password or Create a password with letters and numbers. only wardrivers are able to get into someones wireless netework from non passworded (is that a word?) routersi think

Any password or encryption is always breakable. The question is how easy? Obviously the higher the encryption bit the longer it will take to break it. If you are using WEP use at least 128bit encryption. Same thing with the WAP. Configure the AP or Router not to broadcast! Lower beam power to minimum to minimize signal propagation. Use firewall programs, use MAC address only access and most of all change your password at least weekly or if it's not really that bad every 2 weeks. The trick is, if a wardriver happens to see your system and finds it passworded, they will always look for softer targets before they'll try breaking yours.

wep is possible with know how. well...only a haxor boy will bother of course. but its not extremely hard. the newer seucirty works better
