Can't be any worse then standing in front of a microwave...

I sit in a copper cage...keeps the wireless from giving me cancer, and the aliens from ready my mind....

I don't think it matters too much. I sit in an isolation cage with 3 AP's and 2 client radios for 8+ hours a day, and I"m not dead yet :p. even with the AP's off, sitting in there gives you a headache if you don't get out every once in a while.

I guess the real question would be why in the fizzy would you have 5 AP's in one apartment?

These are extremely low power devices. In the neighborhood typically of less than 100 milliwatts. That is 1/10th of a watt. We are still too much in the infancy to say with 100% certainty but in realistic terms, it's a non issue.

Oh, there is no comparison to a microwave in terms of effect to you. None.

ktwebb was on the safe side.

Actually, 99% of the End-Users Radois are transmitting 30 - 40 mW.

5 units, if transmitting in the exact same time, would amount to 150 - 200 mW.

If you put all of them together on a chair, and sit on them every day for few hours you probably would lose your parental rights.;)

There are models with 200mW booster. I have No scientific prove or disprove, but I personally would not put 5 x 200 MW units in one apartment.

OrlyNorly, 802.11b/g runs on about 2.45 GHz. This isn't too far from the 1900MHz cell phone band. And they emit similar power levels.

Random folks have claimed for years that microwaves in the 1900MHz band cause various forms of cancer. Years have gone by, the issue has been extensively studied, and to my knowledge there is no scientifically rigorous study that shows causality, or even strong correlation.

The 2.45GHz band is, in my opinion, probably safer than the 1900MHz band because the energy is principally absorbed by water inside your body. That in particular would make it difficult to get standing waves going.

So I don't think you need be strongly concerned.

That said, I would strongly urge you to minimize the amount of RF that you are continuously exposed to, just in case. If you don't need 5 APs, don't have them. If you can put some on power strips or otherwise not run them all the time, that would be good too. Don't expose yourself to more RF needlessly.

You should be fine as long as you don't look directly at them. Once direct eye contact is made it is only a matter of time before they start turning your brain into apple sauce. there is no cure for it. they need to be covered with a damp cloth to prevent the deadly "apple sauce waves" from escaping.
