How tough is airport security on a laptop?

As the topic says, I just got a brand new laptop, and I want to take it on the road with me, I was wondering how much harassment is it going to go through in the airport security since I've never traveled with a laptop before, and don't want to damage it. Thanks.

depends on the airport.
sometimes they make you take it out of your bag and send it through the x-ray machine in their tub.
sometimes i have to turn it on.

I hope they don't make me turn it on.. I only get like 2 hours of battery life and that would take away at least 5% :(

Take it out of the bag, put it in a plastic tub. Bag and tub w/ laptop through the xray, you pick it up and put it back in the bag.

Only the laptop itself, all accessories can stay in the bag.

Been through 100's of times, no worries.

Most of the time they'll just make you take it out of the bag and send it through.

Flew at least a dozen times with my laptop, most I've ever had to do was take it out of my bag and put it in a plastic tub.

^^ wht he said.

Also, as some have said...its not "most of the time", its "ALL the time" that you have to take it out and put it in a separate plastic tub.

If you dont, they get suspicious and make you do it over again or worse, turn it on and check it themselves.

In Venice, they made me put the laptop in a separate container like usual, but then they swiped a pad on my laptop and made me keep it out of my bag for 3-4 minutes while the machine ran a residue test on it...
