How to write scripts

Dont think that would work. The "bare metal" OS is Redhat, Vista is a VM within it. I just want to run (not necessarily at the same time) another instance of Vista as a VM.
 
What Virtualization platform are you using? That's where you're going to have to change the MAC address, not inside of Windows.
 
I'm pretty sure VMware lets you set the MAC address in the vmx as well, I posted that link because the one you put in the OP was for Virtual Server so I assumed you were using that.
 
Yeah, you can either edit the machine config files to change the MAC manually or use whatever management interface you're using, it's different in each of VMWare Server/ESX/ESXi.
