How to write data to DVD+RW

I went out to Fry's today and bought myself a stack of DVD+RW disks thinking that I can use them to move files from my old pc to my new laptop. However, I really can't seem to figure out how to use it. Do I need to buy software to write files to the DVDs? I've already formatted the disks using Alcohol 120% (trial version).

I've solved my problem. I found cdburnerxp pro, a free program that let's me write data to my DVDs.

You can burn with windows, it is a trimmed down version of Roxio.
