How to wipe all drivers from a USB port?

I plugged in my palm pilot craddle and my computer says it's an unknown device. i plug the craddle into another usb port, and the computer finds the driver easily.

i remove the unknown device, and reboot. after all the icons appear on my screen, it takes 5min before Windows responds to anything. if i want to open word/internet exploter/etc, it wouldnt do anything.

and the unknown usb device is back in device manager, even though nothing is in that usb port. i can;t get rid of it. i think that's causing my problem.

how to permanently get rid of that unknown driver?
