I win by picking scratchoffs up off the ground. I don't win much, but when I do it's 100% win.

I can see burning through a lot of cash on slots, VLTs. You can kind of get in the moment and burn more than you meant to.

But lottery tickets? The gratification is way too slow to burn through that kind of cash, imo.

In my 43 years of life, I don't think I've ever seen an unscratched scratchoff laying on the ground, let alone a scratched winner. You make it sound like they are as prevalent as nickels on the ground.

They aren't unscratched. People win and don't see it. The more complicated the game, the better chance of finding a win. It also helps that the lottery's biggest customers are crackheads and drunks ;^)

Edit:
Btw, there's a code on MD lottery tickets, and probably all of them where you can see if the ticket's a winner without scratching off the playable section. I forget what it is, but a Duck search should find it. I used to use it as a final check, but preferred "playing" the game cause it makes it more fun.

I've found 3- 2 $10 winners and one $20 winner. The more complicated the game, the more likely they threw away a winner :)

How to win a contest that has higher stakes against you than just about any other game out there?

Don't play it.

For the potential payout vs what it costs to play, Pot odds dictate you have to play the lotto. The odds are the worst of any game out there, but the pay-in to pay-out ratio is the best of any game out there.

I don't gamble. Not because I'm morally against it. I just don't like the idea of a game where I'm not at least somewhat in control of the odds. Investing is a lot like gambling but you have the power to dictate what shuffle things around heavily in your favour. That's show you get rich today.

So the odds of winning the lottery is like 1 in 175 million. So, once the lottery gets over the threshold that the after-tax money is more than 175 million, buy 175 million tickets in every number combination which will further increase the jackpot value and win the lottery and PRAY nobody else won the jackpot.

There ya go.

I've always said this is a good plan and wonder why no one's tried it.

Lottery is for suckers. I get 1099d by Vegas every year. Learn to get lucky playing games of chance with better odds! haha.

Oh, I don't know. Maybe because NETTING $175,000.00 after taking the single-payout option, and then losing 40% to taxes, would not give you a profit.

Even if jackpots became large enough to possibly profit from the winning ticket, you are going to blow your brains out when someone else also has a winning ticket.

It's damn near physically impossible to buy that many tickets. You simple will run out of time.

Also, you risk splitting the pot with another winning which would make you lose significantly in the end.

At the end of the day, the expected value of playing the lottery is significantly less than the value of the ticket... Not worth it.
