How to watch TV on PC monitor

Setting up a pc for my son to take to college. Due to limited space he would like to have his PC monitor double as a TV. I have seen various posts regarding video cards which support this. I don't know much about this subject at all. Does anyone have suggestion on what to read to learn about it. How about recommendations on which card to get? What should I look for? What questions should I ask?

Many thanks in advance....

There is really not much to it.
Get a TV card, install it, connect antenna/cable, enjoy.

There are many good cards out there. I got an El'Cheapo ATi TV Wonder VE for ~$25. Works great with W2K but has no driver support for WinXP, as far as other people have reported.

Do I buy a video card that supports TV? Or do I buy a separate card for this? I want to outfit the PC with a really nice gaming video card. After all, what do kids do with a computer in college but play video games???? 🙂

I recently (as in last week) bought an ASUS TV Tuner card. It was $59.99 from NewEgg, and it comes with a remote with batteries, and a crap load of software (DVD player, security monitor, some kind of presentation maker, recording software, etc). I am still waiting for a couple of components to put my PC together so I don't know how good it will perform, but I heard positive things about it from the people on this forum. I'd recommend taking a look at that.

If you want a good all in one for gaming and watching TV. Then the ati 9700pro all in wonder. It's expensive though around $350.
Otherwise get a slightly slower video card for around $200 and a tv tuner card for $50.

The ATI 9700pro Aill in Wonder works well as a TIVO too. Just make sure to have plenty of hard drive space. Comes with a wireless remote that has serious coolness ratio.
