OK so my neighbors called and complained about how loud my alarm clock is and this morning i did exceptionally well and got it under a minute after hitting the snooze button. I do have it up loud because that's how i have to wake up otherwise i dont hear it.

I say, hook up a vibrating thing from the alarm clock into your pillow, so when it goes off, it makes a quiet sound as well, but vibrates like hell! (rhyming by accident, but i like it:))

If your anything like me, I must have a loud alarm clock or I will just sleep right through it, and then there is always the snooze factor, If anyone has any ideas I am interested as well

Holy cow...your NEIGHBORS can hear your alarm clock? What do you have as an alarm? A police siren? Since I don't actually have an alarm clock, I use my cell phone which vibrates, either place it next to you under your pillow, or place it on something hard (like a plastic box or glass table or something) and I guarantee you it will wake you up with little noise. The only problem with this is there is no snooze button, so you better place it away from arms length of your bed...

Drink 12 cups of water before you go to bed, that'll get you up in a hurry :D

Howard Stern makes a lot of people go to sleep.

Wire a vibrator to the alarm clock and insert into an orafice of your choice.

Actually that's pretty cool.

If your alarm fails to wake you, the neighbors call. :)

To wake you up "better", have the automatic coffee maker on a timer so the smell of fresh brewed coffee puts you in a better mood just before the alarm.

Also, have TWO alarm clocks - one very near your head and the other across the room. Ringing in stereo usually works better than in mono.

Set the alarm way too loud, but don't have it close to hand.
It wakes you and forces you outta bed.
Easier to stay out of bed once you're out :)

i can vouch for that. im the heaviest sleeper. i set my stereo to wake me up and i dont hear it half the times, even when its at 1/2 at full power. i mean when its on at that level i can hear it accross the street, but when im sleeping, im sleeping.

usually what happens is my sister or my brother wakes me up to take them to school, otherwise id sleep in everday.

What the heck kind of college kid are you that doesn't drink coffee?! You must be flunking EVERYTHING! Do you at least swill mountain dew (ew).

Anyway, my suggestion is ditch the radio alarm and get a real alarm. I used to try the radio and I also had a sounds of nature one but a few times I slept right through it and it goes for 2 hours.

I started using Banshee Screamer for PC (look it up!) which is freeware and configurable. It goes off forever, and I can adjust the volume, and the blaring alarm noise it comes with shocks me even when I'm awake.

Advice I have is never use snooze. When the alarm goes of just get up. Never try for a little more sleep. Most people I know who have trouble getting up are also the people who hit snooze at least 10 times every morning.

Also, getting enough sleep helps imensely. As long as I get 7 hours a night I have no trouble getting up without an alarm. Only when I get less do I need to use the alarm.

It all in how you program yourself.

Use, I believe it was Newton's (really not sure about it), method. Get a bowl, hang it above your bed, then, get a hose or something and have water poor into it at a very slow rate. That way, in a few hours, once the bowl overflows, it'll fall on you and wake you up. The other way of course, is to ignore your neigbour !!!
:D
Maybe try a silent alarm clock that flashes a light in your face when it's time to wake up (tuff luck if you're facing the wrong way). Or get yout GF (if you have one) to wake you up !!! LOL

A hummer is always good to get me woke up, if you don't have access to a willing partner though...I'd recommend that Banshee screamer

When I'm REALLY tired, I've been known to sleep through my alarm clock for OVER an hour.

I think it was like 1 hour and 23 mins?

my wife complains because It'll go off and then she still has to wake me up.

I do this very thing. I have one near me that just beeps and drives me mad. All the while my stereo is in the background with the soothing sounds of morning radio funnies. Its a good combo for someone who doesnt like to get up in the morning.
