Windows 2000 creates these files when a system error occurs.. notepad doesnt seem to show them properly. is there a program in windows that will allow me to view them.. ? specifically, the Small Memory Dump (64KB). TIA! :)

These are binary files that contain a snapshot of the system state (kernel data structures, memory dumps, etc). Unless your a developer, there really isn't anything usefull to you in there. If you are the tools are in the DDK.

You could look at events in the Event Viewer.
Administrative Tools | Computer Management | Event Viewer
