How to video conference behind a firewall

My girlfriend is in college and I am still at home right now and when we tried to use live messenger or netmeeting or even the aim video chat none of them were able to connect. I know my firewall isn't causing the problem because I've used the aim video chat when she was at home, it has to be the campus firewall. Are there any clients I can use that will be able to connect more intelligently so we can video conference? Would using a proxy server in live messenger on her side fix the problem? Any help is appreciated.
 
Update using live update I can connect voice, but it wont connect the webcams. We can hear eachother, but it wont let us accept viewing eachothers cams.
