I really appreciate all your help, Gersson. I tried everything again and it worked! I think not removing the old CCC was the problem the first time. I don't see/notice any performance boost or improvement yet, but I'll keep playing and report back. I still get low/mid 20's to 30's on average even with WarCat installed.

Again, many thanks for all your help.

I'm gonna upload some great mods that make the game look great. In the mean time, visit this place: http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_8.html
Go through everything carefully -- leave most everything @ default unless it's a memory/CPU tweak

On the Oblivion options, crank everything up BUT disable cast shadows on grass...its buggy :p

The File I'll upload contains:

Slof's Horses (beautiful looking horses)
Unofficial 1.4 Patch for bug fixes
Advanced Water for the best looking water
Oscuro's Oblivion OverHaul 1.31
Living Economy (needed for Oscuro's Oblivion OverHaul 1.31
LowPolyGrass (Major FPS increase)
LANDSCAPE LOD NORMALMAP FIX
Non Tiling Grass
0.5-Tamriel VWD (you can see far away buildings)
No refraction gate (removes some of the bling from the oblivion gates for smoother play)
Buhay LOD Combine Project 4096x4096 LOD (Captain Kill+Buhay+Shaja) A MUST HAVE!
IFTx21 (WAY better facial textures than default)
Color Map

Here are a couple of pics:

Hmmm the file size is huge...it's 788.5 mb...but that's down from 1.6GB so let me know if you want it or anyone else for that matter...

At least you can search for the mods I mentioned :p

Hey those look pretty decent.

I myself have been enjoying a lot of the "Natural Environments" mod.

Slof's Horses (beautiful looking horses)
Unofficial 1.4 Patch for bug fixes
Advanced Water for the best looking water
Oscuro's Oblivion OverHaul 1.31
Living Economy (needed for Oscuro's Oblivion OverHaul 1.31
LowPolyGrass (Major FPS increase)
LANDSCAPE LOD NORMALMAP FIX
Non Tiling Grass
0.5-Tamriel VWD (you can see far away buildings)
No refraction gate (removes some of the bling from the oblivion gates for smoother play)
Buhay LOD Combine Project 4096x4096 LOD (Captain Kill+Buhay+Shaja) A MUST HAVE!
IFTx21 (WAY better facial textures than default)
Color Map
I wanna! I've been looking for a change in the Oblivion looks for a while. Do any of the above ones have a kind of "Darker Nights" equivalent in which the darkness is a lot more thick and natural?

Such bad luck...my 2nd HDD died :(
ALL my documents are lost as well as what I was going to upload.
I went to my local TigerDirect to buy a Seagate 7200.10 SATA 3Gb.
I asked for that and when I got home I realized that I got an IDE version :(
No space for one so I will have to exchange...not to mention restore about 200GB of info

Oh man, I'm more than sorry to hear that! But it sounds like you have a backup (you mentioned restoration) so that's good. No worries, I'm busy tweaking my ini file ATM and experimenting with some of the mods you listed. Good luck with the repair.

I meant that I have to redownload a load of Apps and re-encode like 150 albums in FLAC.

Whoa. That sucks gerrson...sorry man.

I'll look around the net for those mods you mentioned, you're going to be restoring a lot of stuff from the sounds of it and you shouldn't have to worry about providing a butt-load of mods just for our sake at the same time.

Well, turns out the real problem was that since I was trying to split up such a huge file, there were literally tens of thousand of small files in my folder so my computer froze any time I did anything with it. Windows kept wanting to run CHKDSK...

I managed to salvage a lot of things, formatted and it seems to be perfectly fine!
So all I have to do is re-store all my files.

Not so bad after all :p

Good to hear! Still cost you a lot of time and frustration, though.

Anyway, I'm running LowPolyGrass with a noticeable FPS boost. I get consistently higher 20's and very often 30 or so FPS with it. All fade/distance sliders are maxed-out except the grass slider is half-way. At my resolution, with HDR+AA I really can't ask for too much more. Fights are often slideshows, however, dipping me into the teens (11-18 even). All I can hope for at this point are some driver updates.

Yes I did. I've been doing some experimenting (mostly just with in-game sliders) and it's strange, no matter what I do, my framerates don't change. If I pull grass distance all the down to nothing, or slide it all the way 100% up, I still get the same FPS. Mid-20's isn't TOO bad when walking around, but outdoor fighting is damn close to a slideshow.

I'm even getting some teens and low 20's in dungeons I just noticed. I'm not convinced everything is working properly. I know Oblivion will crush any high-end system, but this seems like too much now.

EDIT: My internet was down all day today (Tuesday), hence the delay in posting.

Something's wrong cos I have crossfire with 6.6 chucks and get like 60 fps average with EVERYTHING maxxed...

Are you using Adaptive AA? That should be off for this game...it's a little too much even for my PC :p

Hmmm, what resolution are you running though? I'm at 1920x1200. Also, I'm using onboard audio, does that cause a performance hit vs. using a separate PCI sound card?

EDIT: I just read your sig again and noticed you're using a 20" NEC with a native res of 1680x1050. I'm going to try some alternate resolutions to see how that affects my performance.

Also, 'Enable Adaptive AA' is NOT checked in CCC.

Well lowering my resolution definitely helps. Although even at 1280x800 I still don't quite get into the 60's (outdoors). It hovers more around the 40's and 50's there. At 1600x1200 I get high 30's and lower 40's and then at my native res of 1920x1200 I'm back to mid-20's on average. With some peaks at 30 and outdoor fights around 15.

I disabled CF in CCC to see how one card would handle 1920x1200 (all other settings the same) and it's consistently 10 FPS less than when CF is enabled. So that means both cards are indeed working together. I may have some overall system tweaks to work through, however. When I built this machine, I just let my mobo audo-detect everything and left it alone. I haven't had the time to learn how to adjust my memory timings, etc.

I used 1920x1080 to mimic your LCD and still got great performance (albeit about 8 fps less on average) so there's something wrong on your end...

I'm not sure if that makes me happy or not. It's good news because I'm not 100% pleased with the performance I've been getting. But it also means I need to do some troubleshooting, which is always painstaking. I'm going to remove all mods and use the default .ini file and start there.

EDIT: Btw, thanks for staying in touch through this thread! Hopefully we can get this resolved.

Do these warcat 6.6 drivers work with 1950xtxs?

If I want to play oblivion with crossfired 1950s is 6.10 beta my best bet?

gersson?

I think someone on these forums did an inf mod to allow x1950xtx to work with a particular driver...
That said 6.10b is the only official x1950xtx supporting driver.

Creepie,

DO this: run "Add or Remove Programs"
Choose "ATI - Software Uninstall Utility"
Uninstall
Reboot into safe mode.
Run Driver Cleaner Pro
Choose ATI reboot into safe mode.
install chuck 6.6
reboot
Open up CCC\3d\All Settings. Set the following: 4x AA (NO TEMP AA), 16xAF (SELECT HIGH QUALITY AF), Catalyst AI: STANDARD, Mip Map High Quality, Vsync: 'Off Unless...', Adaptive AA: OFF
Go to My Documents\My Games\Oblivion
Delete Oblivion.ini
REMOVE ALL MODS ALL OF THEM
Install these (1MB) : http://rapidshare.de/files/36522040/Gersson.zip.html
Change your resolution to 1920x1200 (or whatever it is)
They're performance mods that should really help as well as my tweaked INI that should apply to your PC since they're very similar.
