Hi,
I have an external USB2.0 hard drive. Its basically an USB External Case with a hard drive inside. I plug the thing into my USB2.0 ports (a PCI USB2.0 card), and everything works fine. However, when I plug it into my USB1.1 hub (connected to my USB1.1 motherboard port), Windows XP comes up with the message something like "Windows has detected that you have plugged a HISPEED device into a LOWSPEED port. Your device will run at the slower rate. Please unplug the device and plug it into a HISPEED port." Well, I know that plugging a USB2.0 device into a USB1.1 hub or port will cause the device to run at the slower speed, but it doesn't matter to me. My computer is sitting on the floor, and my USB1.1 hub is on my desk, so I plug my external drive into the hub for convenience. After I click OK on the warning, Windows XP just simply removes the device from my system, and I can't access it. In Device Manager, it just says Device Drivers not Loaded for the USB Hard Drive. Is there some way to make Windows XP let me use the drive on the USB1.1 port/hub?
I have a Intel 850MV mobo, and the hub is a external-powered 4-port Stratitec USB1.1 hub. The USB2.0 card is a FireWire/USB2.0 combo card with a Texas Instruments chipset.
Thanks!!!!
