How to Use the On-Screen Keyboard in Mac OS X

Mac computers have built a reputation on being very powerful, accurate and resistant. In fact, most people buying a Mac only changes it to upgrade the model. Although that is true, you can have an accident with your Mac OSX and lose a key or two. If that unfortunate event happens to you, don´t worry, you can just bring up the on-screen keyboard and continue using it.

On your Mac OS X Device

Step 1
Open the ‘System Preferences’ Window

System preferences, as the name implies, is a menu where you can change the preferences of every part of your computer. Therein you will find everything from printers to sound to the App Store or even the iCloud. From the menu, you have to choose the option 'Keyboard'. And a pop up menu will rise.

Step 2
Bring Up the 'Virtual Keyboard'

From the keyboard menu you can change many preferences of the physical keyboard including the repeat rate and the back light among many others. You have to tick on the ‘Show keyboard and character viewer in menu bar’ and then close the menu as the virtual keyboard appears on the screen.

Step 3
Use the 'Virtual Keyboard' with your Mouse

The virtual or on-screen keyboard´s function is to replace the physical one that comes with the computer. You will find all the same actions and keys you would very likely find in computer, just that they can be activated with the mouse.
