How to use SLIP to send modem traffic to COM port?

So, my boss says you can spoof your computer into thinking your serial port is a modem...thus sending IP traffic to the serial port. Anyone here know how to do this?

I don't think you can do it in Winderz, but pretty much any *nix system can handle it.
