How to use off-camera flash?

I have a Canon Mark III and a 430ex II flash. With my previous camera (Canon 7D) I was able to use the IR and use the flash off camera, but I can't seem to be able to do that with the Mark III. Would I be able to do this using a pocketwizard or a yongnuo transceiver/receiver? Or do I need to buy a different flash like the 430ex III?
